Complex information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) infrastructures are often used for modern industrial operations. In a standard environment, thousands of devices are active increasingly connected via the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This creates new challenges for the protection of industrial environments, particularly due to the increasing difficulty in detecting, analyzing and remedying cyber threats.
Everything is made even more challenging by the fact that IT and OT are usually present in different parts of companies, and for good reason. Until recently, IT infrastructure played a critical role in ensuring complete visibility, security and control, mainly because these were the points of greatest risk in organizations. For nearly two decades, these have been the major concerns of CISOs; but the reality has changed. With an increasingly interconnected world, OT has attracted an increasing number of attacks, resulting in an increase in security concerns.
