How Prepared Are Telcos for a Quantum Leap?

According to Andrew Lord, Senior Manager, Optical Networks and Quantum Research at BT, his was the graveyard shift when he first began presenting quantum technology at customer events six or seven years ago, amusing participants with talk of “crazy quantum stuff” at the conclusion of the day.

Lord explains that this is no longer the case. I’ve witnessed a change in the past two years, where I now chat to clients before lunch and they actively seek us out.

Customers’ increasing knowledge of the risks and potential that quantum computing brings, along with a recent surge in investment in quantum technology, may be the two trends prompting the shift.
